Donating food.

In California:

  • 6 million tons of food is wasted each year
  • 5 million people are hungry
  • Within Riverside county, 134,000 children are hungry

How Can You Help?

The two ways you can reduce food waste are to donate food and change your habits.

Donate Food

Feeding hungry people with donations of extra food is an integral part of resource conservation. Organizations served by food rescue and food bank programs include community centers, soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, senior programs, and childcare centers.

Californians throw away nearly 6 million tons of food scraps or food waste each year. This represents about 18 percent of all the material that goes to landfills.

Rather than throwing away excess food, use the links below to find ways to manage it more thoughtfully.
